Indigenous Education and the Adventure of Insight: Learning and Teaching in Indigenous Classrooms

By Neil Harrison

Overview

Indigenous education becomes an adventure of insight when it is grounded in all the possibilities of classroom learning and teaching.

Indigenous Education and the Adventure of Insight draws upon extensive ethnographic data to critically analyse the diversity of theories and practice which have been develops over the last thirty years or so in Indigenous education. While most research in cross-cultural education has been directed at finding our how Indigenous students learn from the non-Indigenous teacher, this study asks a different question, namely how does an Indigenous student learn outside the non-indigenous teacher's power and knowledge in the cross-cultural classroom?

The author simultaneously analyses his own experiences in Indigenous education over the last 25 years to produce a personal narrative that runs parallel to a scientific discourse throughout the book.
